Revitalized Daniil Medvedev Wins Maiden Trophy in 882 Days
Nineteen of Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hardcourt
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev won his initial trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the tournament title decider.
The athlete, a ex- number one, has had a difficult season, achieving just one match at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.
His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the top ten and eventually separating with long-term mentor Cervara.
Now working with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, he has gradually progressed in the last few weeks - climaxing in a closely contested competitive victory over challenger Moutet.
This marks his first championship since the Italian tournament and first on a hard court since that period of that year.
The win also means he has achieved twenty-one titles at 21 distinct events.
"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a championship is particularly special," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.
"This championship is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my child my daughter was delivered was for her."
The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his previous six title deciders, comprising in that event earlier this year.
The player's counter-punching approach and recurring reactions on court had prompted some to doubt if his capacity to compete at the highest level was finished.
Yet the athlete has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and compete assertively, reinforced by an improved service.
The champion fought back from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing four of the final five games to go ahead.
The competitors traded break points in the second set before the challenger, attempting for his maiden tour championship, took control to push for a decider.
He saved 4 early-game chances in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to serve for the match.
Suitably, the winner secured victory with a shot at the net area, with his opponent incapable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
